Categories

Ballet, Baton, Character, Folkloric, Jazz, Vocal, Lyrical/Modern
Musical Theatre, Hip-Hop, Pointe, Open, Pom-Pom, Song & Dance, Tap,* and Clogging

*(only at some venues)

Contestants will compete in either 
Novice (36 months or less of training) or
Competitive (37 months or more of training).

Competitive does not apply to Pre-School Age Division. 
All contestants are considered novice. Open Division Category pertains
to entrants that do not fit into any of the above referenced categories.

Age Divisions 

Age 6 & Under         Ages 7- 8 
Ages 9 - 10              Ages 11 -12 
Ages 13-14              Ages 15-16 
Ages 17-18              Ages 19 & Above 

All age divisions are determined by the date of the competition. 
The average age will determine the age group for duet/trio and 
small/large groups. If the average age ends in .5 or above, it is then
rounded up to the next age group. Full names, ages and birth dates of
all performers must appear on the official entry form. Contestants must
be responsible for proof of age at the competition if necessary.

 

Competition Rules


Routines and music should be non-suggestive and appropriate for a family 
oriented audience.  Suggestive routines will be deducted accordingly.

Time limit is three 3 minutes.  Production time limit is six 6 minutes.

Scheduled times of routines will not change due to the large amount of entries.

Music should be picked up immediately after each act has been performed.  Please bring back-up music in case of malfunction.   

Performers are to be in the wings of the stage only two acts in advance.

Please advise your students to enter and exit the auditorium quietly 
between routines only.

There will be no videotaping or flash photography allowed.

At no time during or after the competition are parents or teachers to 
approach the judges.  The decision of the judges is final.

Please, remember to pick up judge’s score sheets at the conclusion of the competition. 

Please advise your studio members to be courteous and take care of the 
facility by picking up after themselves.

Studio members should respectfully remain on the stage the entire length 
of the awards ceremonies.  A sportsmanlike attitude with moral integrity 
should be exhibited at all times.

Routines not completed by the performer will not be allowed to repeat 
the performance for any reason.  Improvisational skills should be coached 
before the competition.

Special microphones or sound equipment cannot be hooked up.

No coaching during the performance by teachers or parents. 

No dangerous props.  Any debris left on the stage must be cleaned up 
quickly after the performance.

Dance categories (this does not apply to open category) should not contain 
acro/gymnastics unless approved in advance by FCDA officials.  Forward, backward and shoulder rolls are allowed.

The same contestant(s) cannot compete more than once in the same 
category and age group.  This means that contestants must never compete 
against themselves. 

Children must be chaperoned at all times during the competition.  
 

FCDA will not be responsible for lost or stolen items.  FCDA claims no responsibility for accident or injury.


Schedules

All schedules will be followed as closely as possible. 

It is necessary for the contestant to be at the competition site no
later than one hour before his/her scheduled time of performance. 

FCDA reserves the right to extend any competition.
